The Unit

We provide a comprehensive service for adults and children ranging from routine appointments to emergencies. We provide care for patients with a wide range of ophthalmic disorders, including acute eye emergencies and trauma, corneal disorders and diabetic eye disorders. We also treat chronic eye conditions such as glaucoma and wet macular degeneration.
The Ophthalmic Emergency Referral Service is also a part of the Ophthalmology Department. It is a specialist ophthalmic referral service for patients requiring emergency ophthalmic intervention and/or treatment. The service is staffed by an ophthalmologist, a nurse practitioner, two nurse specialists and a receptionist.

Our highly skilled staff are constantly improving and developing the care we provide to deliver a quality service.

In Ophthalmology, we have a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses of all bands, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, optometrists, ophthalmic photographers, retinal screeners and receptionists.

We regularly collaborate with teams in Ocular prosthetics and the Eye Bank.
