The Unit
AMU is a 54 bedded unit over two separate areas – AMUK and AMUH, one for male and one for female patients; we take referrals from both A&E & GP’s. When patients arrive they are given a full nursing and doctor assessment before having treatment and then either discharged or transferred to a ward. Our patients come in acutely unwell 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. We work closely with all members of the MDT to encourage a swift and comfortable stay for our patients.
Ambulatory Emergency Care
Situated on AMUK we have 9 spaces where we see patients who could potentially be seen, diagnosed, treated and sent home the same day, this is an area we are really excited about as has only been up and running the past couple of years, and if forever changing and improving the service we provide.
The Acute Care Bays
On both sides of the unit we have an acute care bay which caters for the high acuity patients who need close monitoring, have tracheostomy’s, high early warning scores etc.
Who Are We?
The unit as a whole is covered by a manager each side and a matron, they work closely with all members of staff to ensure high standards of care are always provided and that the staff are happy in their roles. Each side has a team and there is always a senior member present on shift who will coordinate the unit.
Who Do We Work With?
We work very closely with the doctors based on AMU, they have their own office on the unit to ensure safety of acutely unwell patients. We have all members of the MDT present on the unit daily, and we work closely with A&E and the wards ensuring the safe transfer of patients. The operations team work very closely with AMU.
