The Same Day Admission Unit is a dedicated department in the rare position of looking for a Registered Nurse to join their team. The unit admits and prepares adult patients for operations on the day of surgery. The unit is seeking to employ an enthusiastic, highly motivated Registered Nurse to join its small but busy team.

With a highly settled and close knit, collaborative team of dedicated nurses, vacancies within the SDAU do not come around often. It will take an adaptable, proactive and people focused individual passionate about surgery to fit in with the team. However, once part of the team you will find a supportive and team oriented unit who are dynamic enough to use their initiative working independently in many situations.

As this is a small unit you will find many opportunities to take a lead in a lot of situations as well as greater opportunities to carry out enhanced practices in particular Bloods and ECG.

The Same Day Admission Unit is a fast paced environment. The Nurses will be dealing with patients as they arrive on the morning of their surgery and are seen by their surgeon and anaesthetist in consulting rooms as well as preparing patients in time for their slot in theatre.

The busy nature of the SDAU will present the staff with ever changing challenges, particularly as business returns to normal in the wake of the Covid crisis and requires the Nursing staff to be able to think on their feet and keep the patients welfare a priority.

The successful applicant would be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high quality patient care by providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership. You would be asked to take charge of the Ward/Department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse and provide support and guidance to all staff.

The post holder will be expected to work a shift system to cover the units future 7 days a week opening hours and some later evenings. Previous working with in an acute surgical department would be advantageous but not essential. Organisational skills are essential.

Full and Part Time hours available.
