About Us
At Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH), we take pride in our privileged role of providing healthcare to over one million people across Norfolk and its surrounding areas.

Our Anaesthetic Department stands as one of the busiest in the country, facilitating around 30,000 surgical procedures annually. The department has also been recently awarded the prestigious Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA).
Our department provides a dynamic environment where you can thrive. We support 26 theatres, including specialised areas like inpatient, Day Surgery, regional anaesthesia, obstetric, and eye theatres. We recently introduced 2 brand new theatres and a dedicated 2-theatre elective orthopaedic surgical suite in January 2024.

– Vascular surgery including interventional FEVAR/EVAR
– A high-volume orthopaedic service including pelvic surgery, complex joint revision surgery and adolescent scoliosis surgery
– Urology including robotic renal, prostate and bladder surgery
– Gynaecological oncology including exenterations, laparoscopic para-aortic lymph node surgery and HiPEC
– Interventional radiology
– Brachytherapy
– Complex EP ablation surgery

- The Obstetric Department oversees approximately 6,000 deliveries yearly and serves as a regional centre for abnormally invasive placenta deliveries.
- Our Critical Care Unit, boasting 10 level 3 and 18 level 2 beds, is among the busiest in the country, witnessing around 2000 admissions annually.

- Our colleagues are trailblazers in the medical community, with key roles in organizations like RCOA, ESRA, BADS, NCEPOD, BMA, and AAGBI. Four consultants are current FRCA examiners.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, our surgical and anaesthetic teams pioneered one of England’s greenest operating theatres. We’ve reduced unnecessary emissions while ensuring high-quality patient care, notably eliminating desflurane – a major pollutant – from most operating theatres.
